BONUSMATERIAL: Die Talkshow zum laufenden Programm

Winter is behind us, and virus roulette gambling finally over. We feel we’re back in control of our bodies and our lives, and that the risk of catching the flu has been significantly reduced.

What then will protect us against the next flight of fancy, if not the occasional unwanted bout of influenza that leaves us dragging ourselves through the days? Ah, those brief moments we’ve learnt to appreciate, when our noses were clear and we could breathe freely – only to soon feel a scratchy throat coming on again.

But rest assured, the TBE and Lyme season is looming. Now we are headed for the bug and parasite spell. Ticks, mosquitoes, lice, bed bugs, leeches in lakes are soon back, waiting to feed on our bodies. The Asian tiger mosquito has also been declared native to Germany last summer, bringing us more diseases such as dengue fever, Zika, chikungunya, and West Nile viruses.

So thankfully, even the warmer seasons will spare us from identifying too much with ourselves. Yet for those who can’t stop asking themselves who they really are, BONUSMATERIAL has found the answer: We are the habitat of countless species. Meaning? Ultimately, we’re just food.

We are never alone with all these reliable companions: trillions of life-sustaining microbes, but also microbes that bring us to life by feeding on us and teaching us our limits. Viruses and parasites give us hope as long as we sustain a welcoming atmosphere towards them. Nothing can be separated from anything else in the world, that’s for sure!

So be our guest. That’s how it should be.
