Repression & Solidarität im Budapest-Komplex

In February 2023, violent clashes between neo-Nazis and activists erupted at a Europe-wide neo-Nazi gathering in Budapest. Several of the accused activists are now held in custody. Maja T. was extradited to Hungary by German authorities, despite opposition from the German Constitutional Court. Maja T. has been held in solitary confinement in Hungary for over a year, under inhumane conditions. In a trial that does not meet constitutional standards, they are facing up to 24 years in prison. Several defendants turned themselves in in January 2025. They are currently being held in German prisons. After almost a year, German courts have not yet decided whether they are extradited to Hungary. Zaid A. in particular is facing extradition. The German trial is to be held at the Court of Appeal in Düsseldorf – as far away as possible from their previous places of residence and their families! Another trial began on 4th November at the Dresden Court of Appeal. Authorities are attempting to secure the maximum charges and penalties. The defendants are accused of membership in a criminal organization, but also of attempted murder. Hanna S. has already been sentenced to five years in prison in Munich

The event will focus on these incidents from the perspective of the detainees and their families. How do the government’s measures affect the families, the defendants, and those who show solidarity? How have they experienced repression? How are the detainees faring in custody? How can young people be supported in these cases? How can solidarity and political impact be generated? The wider political context will also be discussed: How do these incidents fit into the ongoing criminalization of anti-fascist actions? How useful is detention in the first place?

Friends and family members will read from letters, diaries and speeches, followed by a roundtable talk discussing recent developments. Then, the newest, not yet published graphic novel by Zerocalcare will be presented. Participants are Antonia von der Behrens (Lawyer), Professor Christine Graebsch (Head of penal institution archives, FH Dortmund), Mirjam Herrmann (Last Generation), Zerocalcare (Graphic Novelist) und Konrad Litschko (TAZ).

Organised by Eltern gegen Auslieferungwww.kanu.me – in cooperation with Volksbühne Berlin.
