achtung berlin BRANCHENTAGE
THE FORUM FOR THE BERLIN FILM INDUSTRY 11-16 APRIL 2024
The “achtung berlin Branchentage” will present insights into current topics relating to film production and discourse over five days. In workshops, panels, case studies, pitches and at get-togethers, we will focus on film work together with various institutions and associations from the film industry as well as filmmakers and film professionals. In addition, we provide many insights into the work of various film organisations, present innovative film projects and address current film policy issues.
Events / programme preview:
At a panel in cooperation with the VSK – Association of Production Design and Costume Design Professionals, production designers and costume designers from our competition films will provide in-depth insights into their work on set. Using film examples, we explore the working methods and challenges of these artistic trades.
In its interview format „Klappe auf!“, the BFFS Bundesverband Schauspiel is holding in-depth discussions with directors of this year’s film festival, asking in particular about the ideal interplay between directing and acting.
The newly founded Good Media Network aims to promote the visibility and distribution of documentary films, presents the strategies and goals of the new network and presents the kick-off for its current call for applications.
For several years now, the „Dreh’s Um“ project has been focussing on the German-Vietnamese perspective in film production and training, thus enabling young talents to enter the professional film industry. A panel will explore the issue of the visibility of diverse perspectives in film and access to the film industry.
The Women* Cinematographers Network will present young female* cinematographers with their film projects and provide intensive insights into the work behind the camera and report on concepts and forms in the development of their current films, which can also be seen at the festival.
In a workshop, director Tom Lass will talk about the diverse aspects of his work, using the example of his latest series „Tod den Lebenden“ (Death to the Living), and will also use his feature films to shed light on all aspects of screenwriting, acting, dramaturgy and editing.
The „achtung Brandenburg“ theme day, curated by Heiko Michels/Limited blindness, is dedicated to film art and cultural policy in general in the area of tension between city and countryside. In two panels and an artistic intermezzo, representatives from film, culture and politics will discuss current developments in Brandenburg from both an artistic and socio-political perspective.
The panel discussion with funding institutions, film initiatives and associations as well as filmmakers will revolve around the most current topic, the amendment of the Film Funding Act, and will scrutinise not only the production-relevant aspects of the new draft law but also its cultural and political content.
